We’re going to get real this week and talk about…
The word we moms all love to hate and, quite possibly, secretly miss more than our pre-baby, mile-high stilettos that made our legs look amazing in our formative years.
I used to love nothing more than the feeling of personal validation after my 3x per week workouts. Now…let’s just say my kids are my cardio more often than not.
As moms, it’s often impossible to find time to fit fitness into our jam-packed schedules, but it IS important to set a good example of healthy living for our children.
So brush off those sneaks, mommas, and let’s do this!
Here are a few of my tried and true tricks for squeezing in a good workout (when I can):
- Find a gym with free childcare. Most gyms these days offer some form of childcare AND membership fees are greatly reduced during the summer months because of the ability to get outdoors. It’s definitely a great time to shop around for a membership that works within your budget!
- Put aside the mom guilt. You have it. We all do. There are 1.2 million other things that you could be doing besides working out. BUT (and this is a big one), we deserve to be healthy and feel great…both mentally and physically.
- Include your children in your workouts. Let’s face it, you can’t always break free of your littles. Sometimes you need a backup plan to get your workout in, so why not make them a part of your fitness routine every now and then? Mommy & Me Yoga, walks at your local park, jogs around the neighborhood, laps at your pool, or even a game of backyard soccer are all great options. Get moving any way you can and let them be your exercise buddies for the day!
- Find your fitness tribe. We moms talk a lot about our “tribes” when it comes to raising children and the same holds true for fitness. Find local mom groups via social media, your gym or even from your kids’ school and workout together. The motivation and accountability is awesome and the social aspect is pretty great too!
It’s also a proven fact that when you feel good, you workout harder. So, I’m giving you permission to go buy yourself some bright new gear from Tanger’s Under Armour Outlet or Nike Factory Store so that you can stroll into that new spin class looking like a long-time pro!
When I’m not getting my miles in at the gym, I’m running between camp pick-ups, so my treat to myself this summer were these new sneaks!
Whether you’re looking to get your pre-baby body back, shape/tone up for that impending summer vacay (yes, it’s swimsuit season. Yikes!) or just craving some alone time to de-stress…being active and living a healthy lifestyle is something we all deserve and is a great legacy to pass on to our kids.
