Wedding season is here and lovey dovey me is hardly complaining. From beautiful ceremonies to savory cocktails and dance floor fun, weddings are definitely my favorite summer hobby. So not to toot my own horn, but I make a pretty great date. My boyfriend and I have been together for a while now, but somehow have never attended a wedding together. A close family friend of his is getting married this month, so hellooo wedding weekend! As whimsical and lighthearted as the night can be, you can run into some mishaps along the way, especially if you don’t know your date very well or you’ll be meeting the entire family (extended and all) for the first time. I’ve come up with a guide for being the perfect wedding date, and obviously I have to share it with my favorite readers.
Part One: Your Outfit
Your outfit to a wedding says it all, so of course it’s at the beginning of my guide. It will be the first impression other guests have of you, so you want to make sure you’re spot on. Nothing too short, nothing too glitzy, and NOTHING white. I’m sure you may be thinking “well, duh”… but you would be surprised. Wedding festivities are times for your prettiest dresses and daintiest heels. You want to look classic yet chic as you know pictures will be taken. A dress like this would be perfect for a summer wedding. The full skirt will keep you comfortable and able to move easily throughout the night. Grab a simple clutch or crossbody and you’re set. My go-to place to buy? J.Crew. I’m hoping I can find something like this for the one I’ll be attending – the pops of floral are adorable for summer!
Part Two: Your Gift
First, you want to make sure you have this taken care of prior to the day of the wedding. Most brides will have a wedding registry that you can choose from, but in the case that they don’t or items within your budget have already been purchased, I’ve included it in my guide. You want to stay away from large sets of glassware or flatware – that’s normally something that the couple will pick out on their own per their preference. I always stick with kitchen accessories and Pottery Barn Outlet has been my saving grace when it comes to wedding gift-searching. I picked up this Whitewash Woven tray last week and was tempted to buy one for my apartment as well. It’s multipurpose and can be set out in multiple rooms. And the summer white is perfect for a summer bride!

Part Three: Yourself!
The last part in my guide is all about you, girl. A wedding is a special event for everyone in attendance, so be your best self and have some fun! It can be hard not knowing other guests, but practice your small talking points and you’ll be good to go. Luckily, I’ve met just about everyone in my boyfriend’s family. But like any wedding, there are always new faces so I’m sure I’ll take part in some small talk myself.
Well that does it for my guide to being the perfect wedding date. Hopefully this will make all you wedding go-ers breathe a little easier when it comes to the big night.
