OK ladies – If you haven’t yet experienced the shirtdress, now is the time! It’s been at the forefront of designer collections for quite sometime now and is by far the most comfortable wardrobe item you’ll ever own. In addition to its comfort factor, the shirtdress is also the most versatile piece in fashion right now. Just ask my husband, I wear mine everywhere…
Below is one of many hanging in my closet. I got this electric orange shirtdress from Forever21 at Tanger a few weeks ago (for only $23) and have already surpassed 5 wears. Keep reading for a few short tips on how to dress up or dress down this staple summer trend.
Let’s Lay Low
My first wear was an easy one – My husband and I were spending the weekend house hunting and I needed something cute and casual. I knew we would be in and out of the car all day hopping from showing to showing and I needed a look that would last.
I took note from the way Forever21 styled the dress and paired it with the most comfortable pair of summer Sam Edelman booties that I own. I actually scored them from Saks OFF 5th during last year’s end of summer sales. To keep it easy, I tossed on my simple black crossbody and ta da… I was dressed to impress! You could easily add a cool moto jacket or summer sneakers to create a similar casual, but trendy look.

Let’s Get Dressy
After our long day of house hunting, we were in desperate need of a cocktail. We decided to try out this new rooftop bar that had beautiful views of the city. It was just the scene we needed after such a stressful day.
Because the dress itself is such a bright and bold color, I thought a more neutral look would class it up a bit for a night out. Any guesses on the shoe of choice? Of course they were my go-to nude pumps that travel with me everywhere! If you don’t already own a similar pair, I would recommend adding them to your shopping list a.s.a.p. Because I wasn’t carrying much, I added this small clutch and simple gold jewelry to finish off the look. Matching the neutral tones adds visual symmetry and immediately makes you look more fashionable and chic. Needless to say, my husband was quite impressed by the transformation from day to night!

Fashion doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming, in fact some of my best looks are those I have to toss together in a rush. My #TangerTip – Just keep it simple. Less is always more, especially when working with such trendy pieces like a shirtdress.
