Breaking news in the Tanger Mom household….this momma is getting away for a long weekend to celebrate her upcoming birthday (exact age will remain unknown). Three whole days with my husband and no kids is truly a cause for celebration. I love my littles, but it’s time for some much needed R&R after an eventful summer.
For me, there’s no better place to rest and reset than the mountains. So it should come as no surprise that the highlands, mountain-inspired look that is trending this fall is at the top of my fashion faves list.
This casual look is PERFECT for a weekend of wine tastings, shopping, lakeside dining at our cozy cottage and perusing the local farmers’ market on Saturday morning. I can smell the fresh apple cider now!
The layers are so easy to build and work great for the warm, late summer days and cooler mountain nights. It’s as simple and functional as a Gap jean paired with a Tommy Hilfiger button up, statement necklace, sunnies and great booties for daytime. Then, just layer on a trench from Banana Republic with a fun scarf or your favorite oversized, embellished sweater for the evening and you’re done! Easy and stylish. Just the way a busy mom’s wardrobe should be.
My husband also scored tickets to see our favorite band at a small, intimate concert Friday night at an outdoor venue with a killer view of the mountains. Dinner, wine and our favorite band in the crisp mountain air. This trip couldn’t have been planned at a more perfect time. Well done, Hubs. Well done!
The sound of my toddler’s playroom destruction in the background is a not-so-friendly reminder that our trip is still a week away. This is one of the few instances in mommyhood where I wish time WOULD fly by.
Until then, I’ll be flaunting this comfy, mom-proof look for preschool registrations, back to school shopping and play dates while daydreaming of my upcoming mountain retreat.
Being a mom isn’t always glamorous but with the highlands look, it CAN be beautiful, fashionable AND functional. You may not be walking any runways but you’ll look amazing walking the grocery aisles…and that’s a win in my book!
Here’s hoping you other mommas can manage to steal a few nights away with the hubby or your girlfriends, break out your favorite fall looks, and relax before the new season’s routine kicks in.
