I don’t know about you, but that little section of the receipt that reads, “You Saved $…”, is an immediate shopping validation. No FOBO (fear of better offer) here! They could totally do away with the rest of the receipt and just give me a slip with my total savings. I mean, who doesn’t get a rush from saving money?
For us budget conscious moms, end of summer shopping means BIG savings. It’s one of THE BEST times to shop for your family and home, and keep your budget in check. Even on larger ticket items that you’ve been “wish listing” for months.
Here are a few of my personal tips for making the most of the end of summer deals that will really have you dancing your way out of the store.
You probably just dropped a small fortune on back to school gear for the littles but because they are ALWAYS outgrowing their clothes, (Sometimes overnight. True story.) it’s a great time to stock up on graphic and long-sleeve tees, leggings, jeans and the essentials.
I would love to tell you that I’m THAT mom that got her kids an entire wardrobe for the next summer during these end of season sales but, sadly, nope. My kids laugh at growth charts and do not follow standard sizing. So I pick my battles. If your kids are older this is a little easier and I’m totally envious.
Chances are your hubs’ wardrobe could use some TLC right about now. This is the time of year to splurge a little on him with new button ups, polos and pullovers. Most of these staple pieces are nearly half off (like these pieces from J. Crew Factory) so you can give his closet a makeover and stay on budget.
End of summer shopping for myself means shopping for items that are more seasonless. Most of my blouses, tops and even dresses from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic are in play all year long so I look for key pieces that give me versatility in creating different looks for each season.
FOR THE HOME
The end of summer deals extend far beyond fashion. Here are just a few of the top finds for your home.
If you’ve been looking to add to your at-home fitness area, now is the time. The “get fit for summer” craze is over so retailers typically offer the best discounts this time of year on treadmills, ellipticals and other exercise equipment.
If your hubby has been dropping not so subtle hints about needing new gardening tools and other outdoor equipment, now is the time to give him the green light.
Wedding season is in full swing as we head into fall, so if you’re in the market for new kitchen essentials and other housewares to give as gifts, you’re likely to find some great deals right now.
