I can’t believe Halloween is less than a week away. Well, I take that back. Between work, running errands, the little things (laundry, drinks with the girls) and everything in between, time is flying and going to the Halloween store to search for a costume has been on the bottom of my to-do list. It’s also the last thing my wallet needs – my bank account HAS to be strong for the holidays. So, to save time and money, my costume this year is #DIY, all the way.
I’m ECSTATIC to show you my ideas – right from my closet! I’m definitely feeling the Halloween spirit and my imagination is soaring (excuse my many Halloween references, I just can’t help myself).
Seriously #savers, you too can use outfits from your closet for a killer Halloween costume. I have gone through my wardrobe and found all the necessary items to master a few fun looks this year. Here’s how:
Do you remember my Come Sail Away post? It was full of maritime fashions and putting them together for a costume is super easy.
I also realized I had these striped shorts from my July 4th weekend and could do stripes on stripes. I could even be a MIME with these pieces, but that would require me to be silent all night and well, I don’t know if I’d be very successful.
The Good Witch
The Wizard of Oz has always been a favorite of mine. I saw Wicked on Broadway last year and I was obsessed all over again. I like to think of myself as Glinda, the Good Witch and this blush-colored, full skirt is exactly what the Good Witch would wear. All I need is a crown, a wand and voila, another costume option!
I knew I loved the color orange for a reason. It’s IDEAL for a pumpkin. 🙂 I have an old black t-shirt I could cut up to make eyes, a nose and mouth that I could carefully pin on (I am not about to damage the fabric on this beauty).
Jacket? ✔ If I decide on this one, I’m going to get very into it. I’m talking the works – makeup, orange hair, and of course channeling my inner Johnny Depp. I’m not an expert at the makeup (or the acting for that matter), but I’ve been watching YouTube tutorials and I think I can pull it off.
Any excuse to wear my leather jacket, black jeans and red lipstick is hard to pass up (This would be even better if I had someone to dress up like Danny Zuko by my side). And with cooler weather, this might be the way to go.
Whatever you’re wanting to be – go for it, don’t hold back. This is the time to get inspired and OWN your Halloween costume (literally).
