Happy 2017, mommas! I hope the holidays were good to you and you got everything on your list.
Speaking of lists, have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet?
Personally, at this stage of my life the word “resolution” is about as effective as “diet”. Neither are long-term (if I’m being honest). So, instead of resolutions I like to set goals for myself and my family.
Here are some that I’ve set for this year. Hopefully a few of these will help inspire your list too!
1. Shed Some Weight
No, I’m not talking pounds, although that would certainly be an added bonus. I’m talking about the weight of that nagging “mommy guilt” that we carry around.
I’m sure you’ve all felt it too. It’s that constant balancing act of “have I given enough attention to child one versus child two,” “what about my husband,” and “oh yeah, I haven’t done anything for myself in FOREVER.”
Without going all Dr. Phil here, this is something that every mom (new or seasoned veteran; working or stay at home) experiences. No more guilt, ladies. Not this year! Motherhood is a balancing act and we all find our rhythms eventually.
And, let’s face it, if we survived the relaxed parenting styles of OUR parents…our kids are GOLDEN.
2. Be Present
As a SAHM/WFHM, I’m with my kids ALL. THE. TIME. but sometimes we’re simply in the same house. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to let my kids have some independent play time but a big area for my own personal improvement this year is actually being present with them.
So I’m making it my mission to put aside the to do list and put down all my gadgets more often for some quality time with them (in and out of the home) while they still think Mom is cool enough to hang out with.
Don’t worry, I’ll still be blogging. I wouldn’t leave you hanging!
3. Make More “ME” Time
Yep, I went there. And I used “make” instead of “find” because we’ll never find the time. There are way too many other things on our to do lists.
Let’s make an effort to schedule some personal time on a regular basis this year, mommas. Whether that’s a Tanger shopping trip, girls’ weekend getaway, regular date nights, joining a book club or even just sneaking off to watch a movie by yourself.
MAKE. THE. TIME. Everyone will be better for it!
4. Continue with Kindness
If you read my Little Acts of Kindness post, you know that serving others is a big deal for my family. It’s a great way to spend time together AND teach the littles the importance of helping others, so we’ve committed to a few new activities throughout the year!
Well, ready or not, it’s time to start the new year so let’s do this the right way! Who’s with me?
