College is tons and tons of fun, but sometimes it all catches up to you too fast. Whirlwind weekends, late nights in the library, and stressful course work can really start to take their toll. The most important thing to never compromise on is taking care of yourself. Just a quick 5-minute break might be all you need to recharge and refocus. Below are 10 ideas I periodically include in my routine to foster self-care!
1. Spa Break
It could be a fancy spa with massage chairs, but if you’re really in a crunch for time or money there are other options. Try a face mask, painting your toes, or taking a quick shower. A little pampering and me time always does the trick!
2. Unplug
Getting off social media and turning your phone off takes so many distractions away. It’s nice to spend a night not relying on Snapchat, Instagram, or YouTube for entertainment. Enjoy your college town and friends—time flies.
3. Take a Gym Break
Working out is a great stress reliever and kick starts productivity. I love how great it feels when I walk out of the gym and feel like I’ve accomplished something worthwhile!
Under Armour | Split Word Leggings | $27.99
4. Talk It Out
Call up a friend from high school or a parent. Sometimes it’s just good to talk to someone that’s known you longer than a semester.
5. Buy Something For Yourself
A new fragrance, makeup, or fun purse. Reward yourself for your accomplishments! Aced your Microeconomics test? Finally made a clean break from a toxic relationship? Sticking to a gym routine? Treat yourself for doing well!
J.Crew Factory | Tassel Bucket Bag | $58.59
6. Light ‘em up!
Candles do just the trick when I’m feeling stressed. Plus it makes everything smell yummy. Tip: if you’re in a dorm that doesn’t allow candles use a fragrance diffuser!
7. Declutter
Reorganize your space, purge clothing items, or clean out your social media. A little clarity in other aspects of your life can really help your mental state.
Kirkland’s | Striped Storage Bin | $9.99
8. Reconnect With Your Hobbies
Love playing soccer? Enjoy reading romance novels? Love Grey’s Anatomy? Reconnect with what you love and reintegrate them into your life.
9. Hydrate
This sounds like such a no brainer, but being dehydrated can really pull you down.
10. Turn In Early
Head to bed early! Getting a full night of sleep will leave you refreshed and renewed.
As busy as life can get, always take the time to put yourself first. Take a few minutes each week to integrate a few of these suggestions into your routine and get to feeling like the best version of yourself.
