You’ve got your schedule down and have probably gotten a test grade or two back. We’re chugging along through the semester and it only goes by faster from here on out! It’s only a matter of time before that mid-semester slump hits and your motivation flies out the door. Here are my tried and true tips to getting you through the rest of the semester and avoiding a slump!
1. Goal Orientation
Set goals for yourself according to your current standing in your classes. I like to set goals specific to each class I’m in. So, for my Marketing class, I might set a goal to get an A on my next test. And let’s say for my Statistics class, I want to spend at least 30 minutes a day looking over my notes. Little road marks like these will help keep you on track for the semester – and they don’t always have to be about the next grade!
2. Reward Yourself
If you meet a goal, treat yourself! Buy yourself a new lipstick after acing your last test or treat yourself to a meal out. Don’t forget to check out The Cosmetics Company Store or Bare + Beauty for lipstick and other makeup at a fraction of retail prices! Bonus— check out Sara and Briana’s Beauty Haul!
3. Take a Break
Grinding through the semester can be relentless. Make sure to take breaks for some rest and relaxation after a rough day or week. Even a quick 10-minute break to lay down and scroll through Instagram can kick you back into gear. (@TangerOutlets is obvi my go-to profile to browse).
4. Stay In Touch
A quick call to Mom or a friend from home might be just what you need. Reaching out to others and occasionally venting is more healthy than putting everything on yourself to deal with.
5. Write Down What’s Important
Writing all the remaining due dates and test dates to come on one piece of paper or document can help relieve stress. Seeing that you’ve accomplished over half of what you had on your planner to start the semester will always feels good!

6. You’re In This Together
It happens to all of us. Studying in groups and doing things with friends helps maintain productivity. If you have to be accountable to someone other than just yourself you’re more likely to stick to what you say.
7. Reach Out
Is there one class that’s really bringing you down? If so, reach out to the professor before the semester is too far gone. It’s not always easy to do, but you never know what’ll happen until you make an effort!
8. Change Your Routine
What?! I know what you’re thinking—I just got settled into a routine and now you’re saying change it? Think about your routine critically. Is there any part of it you aren’t satisfied with? Do you eat dinner too late at night? Do you stop studying before you say you will? Acknowledging what’s wrong with your current routine will help put you on track to the right one.
Tanger Tip: try working out in the morning to make sure you get your exercise in before your day gets crazy! Nothing gives me workout inspo like buying a new outfit.

9. Craft Your Strategy
Now that you have goals and are mixing up your routine it’s time to dig a little deeper. What’s ultimately going to get you to those goals? A strategy is key in order to stay on track to reaching goals and your full potential.
10. Breathe
It’ll be over before you know it! Make sure you still leave time for fun.
And that’s a wrap! As simple as some of these tips might seem, integrating them into your life mid-semester may just pull you out of that slump. Tag me in your semester adventures @TangerOutlets using #StudentLife.
