You know what they say… new year, new you! When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions it’s easier said than done. The easiest way to make sure you follow through with a resolution is to actually be committed to it in the first place. My biggest tip is to think back through the past year to something you frequently wished you could change about your life—there’s no time like the present to make those changes!
Here are my past and present resolutions to serve as some inspo with tips to conquer them!
1. Work out more—Make a commitment. Make some sort of competitive or financial commitment. Whether it’s a competition with your roommates to hold you to your resolution or a monthly recurring payment to a gym. Pick the level of commitment that will ensure a follow through. Reward yourself for progress by setting goals at the beginning! One might be buying yourself this cute little workout towel from Francesca’s! I give myself one “cheat” meal a week if I go to the gym 5 out of 7 days. You know yourself best so pick something that motivates you most.

2. Spend less money—The most important lesson here is to spend smarter and less frequently. Join TangerClub to get money back for Tanger purchases and keep track of your money through a budgeting app, excel sheet, or traditional pen and paper. They’re all great ways to keep yourself in check.
3. Stop procrastinating—Listen to podcasts and follow inspirational accounts on Instagram… I’m serious. Happier is a great podcast that gives small tips for making your life simpler and happier. One thing I’ve implemented is the one minute rule. If you can do it in one minute or less just do it and don’t put it off—it’s crazy how easy it is and makes you feel so much more productive at the end of the day. A good place to start is with a weekly or daily organizer like the one below, also from Francesca’s. The easier it is for you to keep track of your tasks, the more likely you are to accomplish them!

4. Focus on relationships—In 2018 social media and different means of communication will still be present and growing in popularity. Just because you’re connected online doesn’t mean a relationship is strong! It’s crazy how people react to a simple random text or phone call. Challenge yourself to text 2-4 people per month and ask them how they’re doing or catch up. Slowly work your way up to phone calls, coffee dates, and more in person hangouts. It’ll feel more natural and leave you feeling more connected to your network! And oh by the way—those people will feel like your relationship is stronger than ever. I mean who doesn’t want to be a good friend?!
These are four of my favorite resolutions for the New Year. Just remember these resolutions are a process—habits have to be formed and they don’t happen overnight. Setting goals and ways to stick to them from the beginning leads to greater chances of success.
