New year, new you, new semester! You’ve heard it before—the start of the year (and the semester) is the most critical. Getting off to a good start puts you on a better path to success for the future.
By now you’ve got at least one semester of college under your belt—you’re feeling like an expert on your routine, studying and balancing college life. There’s always room for improvement and something to learn. Here are my tips for getting off to the best possible start this spring semester!
There’s something about starting off the new year with fresh, clean spaces, technology and an open frame of mind. Try to clear out space on your laptop by uploading your fall semester files to GoogleDrive and deleting them off your laptop. Go through your phone and email to clean out space for the new semester too. Purge on clothing and re-organize your closet, dresser, and bins. Don’t forget to re-organize your backpack too! Fall semester wiped out your snack and school supply stockpiles. Make a trip to the store to pick up some new goodies for spring. Getting new folders, pens, and pencils always feels so refreshing.
Check for syllabi a couple days before class begins so you can already have all due dates written down. Start assessing your class and work schedule and find time for your favorite hobbies—this way you can try a few different routines at the beginning of the semester and see what works best. Write down reminders in a planner like this one from FRANCESCA’S throughout the semester like applying for internships, making summer plans, booking flights home, etc.

Think of what seemed difficult last semester and write out a list. Try to approach each of the issues and revise your approach so that there’s a more favorable outcome this semester. Didn’t do well in a class? Try going to office hours or heading to the library for an hour each day dedicated to the class you’re struggling with. Want to work out more? Compare gym class hours with your schedule and write down all compatible times or try working out in your dorm/apartment using YouTube videos! The best way to make this semester even better than the last is to work to change the things you weren’t satisfied with.
With these tips for starting your spring semester you’ll be top of the class in no time! Leave last semester where it is—in the past. You have a clean slate and plenty of room for a fresh start. Everyone has room for improvement so take the time to do things like these to set you up for success.
