Tanger Outlets proudly celebrates Black History Month and invites you to join us in honoring the legacies and achievements of past generations. While it’s important to spotlight, understand, and educate ourselves on Black history every day of the year, this month provides more awareness for us to look toward a better tomorrow as we imagine new possibilities and take action to make them a reality.

With our corporate headquarters located in Greensboro, North Carolina, we often acknowledge and admire the powerful impact of the Greensboro sit-in that began on Feb. 1, 1960 and are proud to have our corporate headquarters located in a town that contributed to the end of segregation and that continues to pursue equality and inclusion on so many levels. We applaud the Greensboro 4 (as the men who executed the plan were called) for their diligence and patience in planning The Greensboro sit-in which provided a template for nonviolent resistance and marked an early success for the civil rights movement. Visit The International Civil Rights Center and Museum website to learn more about Greensboro’s impact on the civil rights movement and take a virtual tour of the museum.
Recognizing history and understanding the importance of honoring Black History Month, the Tanger Team is proud to host a speaker series for our employees in February that will continue education and awareness of Black History Month. In our ongoing commitment to our communities, we are also actively participating in finding opportunities to volunteer and give back this month. In addition, our brands, located at our 36 centers across the country, are implementing positive change by offering special-edition collections created by Black artists and creatives, along with making financial charitable contributions, and we are proud to highlight them for making a difference.
Old Navy is partnering with three artists—Lo Harris, Temi Coker and Destiny Darcel—to create a special Black History Month collection of Project WE tees. Project WE is an ongoing series of powerful, graphic tees designed by a diverse group of artists. The bold designs are created to encourage people to imagine a more inclusive world through art.
In addition to special fashions, Old Navy is also donating $50,000 to the Fifteen Percent Pledge, continuing to support their work to advance racial and economic equity in the Black community. Gap Inc., Old Navy’s parent company, is an ongoing partner of the Fifteen Percent Pledge and they’ve also committed to increasing their pipeline programs by 15%. Gap Inc.’s pipeline programs drive access and opportunity for the Black community within the Gap Inc. family of brands, starting with early empowerment programs.
Look for a special line created just for Black History Month at Under Armour, too. “To be seen is about taking up space, not being afraid to be your authentic self… Being heard, it’s about having your voice matter… When we talk about being celebrated, we want people to celebrate their past, their rich culture, their history, and their future.”—Yurri Mial, Under Armour Footwear Design Director.
Abercrombie & Fitch is celebrating by creating their collection “For Justice For Growth”, a gender-inclusive capsule designed to amplify Black voices—during Black History Month and beyond. And, no matter the sales, they will be donating $250,000 to the Steve Fund, a US-based non-profit organization that supports the emotional mental health and well-being of young people of color.
“Designing a collection with my coworkers that sparks cultural conversation and celebrates growth & transformation is a top-tier feeling.” – Lavelle Stillwell, Men’s Designer at Abercrombie & Fitch.
Forever 21 is presenting a new collection of fashions from three artists and creators. This line-up showcases the range, beauty and power of artistic expression and a percentage of the proceeds from this collection will be shared with not only the artists, but their community partners, too.
